Today we're highlighting Chloe Dzublio for Women's History Month! ❤️ Chloe, a strong fighter, artist, and activist, was raised in Connecticut where she enjoyed horseback riding. She fronted the punk-rock group the Transisters, inspiring numerous artists, designers, and photographers. Additionally, she dedicated her time to volunteering for the Gender Identity Project at the LGBTQ Community Center, contributing to HIV prevention efforts. Chloe advocated for civil rights, adequate health care and dignity for people living with HIV/AIDS, transgender people, and drug users. Let us tell you about another incredible woman during Women's History Month! 👏 "Katrina Haslip was incarcerated at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility and while in prison, was diagnosed with HIV. Appalled by the discrimination and mistreatment of her fellow inmates living with HIV/AIDS, she and other inmates, including Kathy Boudin and Judy Clark founded ACE (AIDS Counseling and Education), creating a powerful group of peer educators and advocates." Katrina continued to fight stigma once she was released and educated others on symptoms particularly in women because at the time, the CDC did not include women in their definition. Today is International Women's Day! We thought we'd share a little bit about the wonderful, Dr. Mathilde Krim. ❤️ In 1983, Dr Krim created the AIDS Medical Foundation, a vehicle for raising private funding for AIDS research, which evolved to become amfAR in 1985. Since its founding, amfAR has mobilized more than half a billion US dollars for HIV research. She was extremely courageous and impacted so many lives. ✨ 2023 was a busy year indeed! We provided 1,301 FREE rapid HIV tests, plus our free tests for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and Hepatitis C. We appeared around 37 times in the community at events like Wichita Pride, Health Fairs, Pee for Pizza, and more! Soooo many condoms were sent out to be distributed in Wichita and surrounding areas! Unfortunately, we had 316 missed appointments last year. This is the only number we'd like to see go WAY down. ✨ With all of that being said, thanks to all who supported PDI in 2023! 💖Cheers to another year of growth, and continuing to educate and provide free testing for the community! Did you know that U=U was launched during the summer of 2016? 🌞 This new information about HIV transmission was a massive breakthrough. U=U stands for Undetectable Equals Untransmittable. What does this mean? People with HIV who achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load—the amount of HIV in the blood—by taking their medication daily as prescribed cannot sexually transmit the virus to others! June 8th is National Caribbean American HIV/AIDS Awareness Day! Today is designed to raise awareness in Caribbean communities in the United States and its territories. This is a necessity because they are at an elevated risk for HIV infection. Love your Liver!!! 🧡 Although there is no cure for hepatitis B, treatments are available that can delay or reduce the risk of developing liver cancer. It can be prevented with a safe and effective vaccine which is highly recommended by the CDC! As for hepatitis C, there is currently no vaccine to prevent it, but treatments are available that can cure it! @healthcoreict here in Wichita does a wonderful job getting people who are positive for Hep C started on treatment!

Today is a day to celebrate the Pansexual and Panromantic community and educate others on the community! 💛 To be Pansexual is to have a sexual or romantic attraction not limited by gender, or gender identity, while to be Panromantic is the same except without the sexual attraction. We are so excited to be celebrating National Asian and Pacific Islander HIV Awareness Day! This day raises awareness about the impact of HIV and AIDS-related stigma in Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities. It started in 2005 with the Banyan Tree Project and the San Francisco Community Health Center. 💓

National Hepatitis Testing Day on May 19th is an opportunity to remind health care providers and the public about who should be tested for viral hepatitis. Did you know there are five types of Hepatitis? There is Hepatitis A, B, C, D, & E, but the most common types are A, B , and C! The CDC recommends all adults get tested for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C at least once in their lifetime and pregnant women get tested during each pregnancy. 👍
